There I was, standing under the bright,
hot lights of Madison Square Garden, with cameras flashing all around
me. The surreal moment of the crowd screaming and whistling while
there were chants of "Pug, Pug, Pug" from the crowd was
something never to be forgotten. Then, the judge said Pug, and I knew
my career, as a dog handler, would forever be changed.
I can’t imagine that this all began
when I was five years old when my parents brought home a rescue Golden
Retriever, Beau, the same age. Beau came to us with eight titles, and
a love for life. The two of us started in Pee Wee junior handling and
worked our way up from there. I then graduated into showing over
twenty other breeds in junior handling.
After owning a few males and showing
them, my mother and I then took the next natural step - breeding. I
started to show and finish the offspring in both Canada and the United
States, and quickly moved onto showing my friends dogs as well. This
blossomed into where I am today.
Over the past six years I have had
both a Golden Retriever and a Pug in the top five of their breed
rankings, and finished over one hundred more in both Canada and the
Untied States. In 2005 I showed, along with help, the number one
Golden Retriever in Canada, Am Can Ch Karagold’s Lets Be Happy. She
was also a top ten sporting dog for that year.
I have won specialties on pugs,
including the Pug Dog Club of Canada national specialty. Also, many
group placements at toy and sporting dog specialties. But, my
highlight was at Westminster Kennel Club when I won the breed and went
onto a group three with Pug Am Can Ch Sugarbear’s Flaming Star O’Harada
under esteemed judges Frank Sabella (breed) and W.M. Taylor (group).
Over the years I have belonged to, and
been active in, many clubs. I also judge junior handling whenever I am
asked. I believe that all those kids are our future, and should enjoy
this wonderful sport that we are all so fond of.
I hope that you enjoy my web site, and
I welcome any questions that you may have. Thank you and have a fun
